A History of New Zealand Women offers the first narrative account of this country's past from the perspective of the women who have lived here. But this is much more than a history of women's rights, achievements and struggle for equality. It is a story too of particular women in time and place: the women who spoke out against government incursion of Maori land, women who went out onto farms in the Second World War, women who painted and wove, sang and wrote. And it is a history that places New Zealand women on the international stage in the twenty-first century - at the United Nations, in the Grammy Awards, with the Man Booker Prize, and in fields as various as environmental sustainability, software development and sport.
