The New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata tells the stories of New Zealanders through the art of portraiture. We enable visitors from near and far to learn about New Zealanders who, in all their diversity, have shaped our country’s development or influenced the way we think about ourselves. Through portraiture, we offer perspectives on ourselves, our history, our creativity, and our place in the world.

Every donation is gratefully received and goes a long way to ensuring the Gallery continues to be free for all to enjoy. 

The Gallery is a registered Charitable Trust (#CC21606). All donations over $5 may be eligible for a 33.33% tax deduction.

Become a Circle supporter

By joining our Circle supporters you can enjoy being part of a group that enjoys special recognition.

Circle supporters make an annual donation or a longer term commitment of $250 or more.  There are three Circle groups­­:

  • Master’s Circle: Donations of $5,000 or over

  • Artist’s Circle: Donations between $2000 to $4,999

  • Canvas Circle: Donations from $250 to $1,999
