The Hocken Collections: Portraits of Artists

Works by some of the great names of New Zealand art including Ralph Hotere, Douglas MacDiarmid, Grahame Sydney, Rita Angus, Joanna Paul and Philip Clairmont are being loaned from the University's Hocken Collections in Dunedin.

Auckland Centre Head Adrienne Molloy says the collection of over 30 works entitled The Hocken Collections: Portraits of Artists is made up of both self-portraits and portraits of other New Zealand artists.

For example, there is a Rita Angus self-portrait as well as a portrait of her by acclaimed landscape artist Douglas MacDiarmid, while Alan Pearson's portrait of Michael Smither is mirrored by Smither's impression of Pearson.
