Adam Portraiture Award finalist Daniel Phillips will be in the gallery creating live portraits in his distinctive style from 1:00pm–4:30pm. Visitors are invited to watch Daniel work and take home a finished portrait for a koha. Portraits are offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis.

Daniel Phillips is a 52‑year‑old artist based in Lower Hutt, with a dedicated art practice spanning 25 years. He has developed his work through long-term involvement in community studios including Petone Art House, IHC, Vincents, Alpha Studios, and Arts on High. For the past 14 years, Daniel has created art three days a week at MIX Lower Hutt, where his practice continues to evolve.

In 2025, Daniel held his first solo exhibition at Thistle Hall. He has also exhibited at the IHC Art Awards, the Hutt Art Society, and the Dowse Art Gallery. His work has received highly commended awards, is held in private collections, and has been featured in online articles.

Accessibility Information: The New Zealand Portrait Gallery is an accessible venue, all on one level. There is an accessible wharepaku at the back of the venue. The gallery has automatic sliding doors and glass doors that can be pushed or pulled to enter. We have a wheelchair available for use within the gallery, and there is low stool seating throughout.
