Join us for an audio described tour of this years Adam Portrait Award. The audio descriptions provided by Audio Described Aotearoa are available at anytime on our web page, however for this session we will be using the transcripts of these same descriptions to give a live tour, the live format will give attendees the opportunity to get involved in the kōrero (conversation) and ask questions. We will have 3 speakers set up in the Gallery and the descriptions will be read over a microphone as we take our tour.

If you have questions about this tour please feel free to call Milly on 04 472 2298.

This session is free but bookings are essential. To book please email or call Milly on 04 472 2298 or milly@nzportraitgallery.org.nz.

If you would like to access the audio descriptions via our website you can find them here.

What is Audio Description? Audio description increases accessibility for blind and low‑vision people by using words to describe visual information, like appearance, facial expression, and costumes. It is usually provided as a live or recorded narrated audio track that can accompany an experience.

Accessibility Information: The New Zealand Portrait Gallery is an accessible venue, all on one level. There is an accessible wharepaku at the back of the venue. The gallery has automatic sliding doors and glass doors that can be pushed or pulled to enter. We have a wheelchair available for use within the gallery, and there is low stool seating throughout. If you have any questions regarding accessibility or if there is something we could do to make your visit easier, please get in touch.
