Kiingitanga Genealogy Exhibition

  • New Zealand Portrait Gallery Te Pūkenga Whakaata Shed 11, 60 Lady Elizabeth Lane Wellington New Zealand (map)

We are proud to present in collaboration with the Kiingitanga an exhibition outlining The Kīngitanga movement and 161 years of Māori monarchy. This exhibition includes the King’s own parāoa tokotoko (whalebone walking stick) which is an intricately carved series of portraits of the previous monarchs.

We are pleased to be able to share these most treasured taonga with all New Zealanders and visitors to the Gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

This is a small introductory exhibition, as acts as part of the Kiingi Tuheitia Portraiture Award Finalist Exhibition.
